Stylish and Fun to Drive, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata is Available Now in Fargo

Looking for an eye-catching and exciting car to help you make the most out of the nice temps and sunny days of July in Grand Forks? Mazda of Fargo has the perfect solution - the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata convertible, or its sister style, the MX-5 Miata RF convertible. Whichever one appeals to you, this car delivers signature Mazda quality with head-turning personality and engaging handling.

This is one of our favorite models to test drive at Lunde Mazda of Fargo. We suspect it could be your favorite car, ever. The new Mazda MX-5 Miata is that rarest of breeds: A sleek, affordable sports car that's truly fun to drive. You can team the feisty four-cylinder with a six-speed manual and have fun every time you get behind the wheel. Go for a Mazda Miata MX-5 RF trim and drive a sporty, retractable hardtop convertible.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata & Mazda MX-5 Miata RF: Two Pulse-Quickening Convertible Options

When it comes to fun in the sun and the wind-in-your-hair freedom of a convertible car, nothing beats the excitement of the Mazda MX-5 Miata models. The classic, traditional, cloth-top MX-5 convertible has been a longtime favorite for Hillsboro drivers ever since it first debuted in 1989, while the MX-5 Miata RF joined the lineup in 2017.

Both models invite you to grab your favorite date and hit the town with their two-seat design, and both come standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood. Regardless of which style you choose, these two cars produce 181 horsepower, 151 pound-feet of torque, and have rear-wheel drive.

Trying to choose which one best suits your personality? The biggest difference between them is the style of their roof. Whereas the original model has a cloth-top convertible roof standard, the RF in MX-5 Miata RF stands for "retractable fastback." This means that it comes standard with a coupe-like hardtop, which opens up for those days when you want to feel the sun on your face.

Performance

The new Mazda MX-5 Miata puts a very satisfying 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood and it produces 181 horsepower with 151 pound-feet of torque. Rear-wheel drive is the one and only option, part of the MX-5 Miata's authentic driving persona. Just as charming, a six-speed manual transmission comes standard, although a six-speed automatic is available for Fargo and Hillsboro, ND drivers on the Grand Touring RF trim.

Car & Driver timed a soft-top MX-5 Miata model doing zero-to-60 in a crisp 5.7 seconds. The hardtop RF is a bit heavier but took only a fraction longer: 5.8 seconds. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is inherently fun to drive, especially with the firmer shocks and springs with the Club trim at the mid-level. One of the MX-5 Miata's most enjoyable personality characteristics is the way the light steering responds so this car can change direction on a dime.

Trim levels

The Mazda MX-5 Miata comes in five trims. In ascending order: Sport, Club, Grand Touring, Grand Touring RF and Club RF. You'll notice the top two trims have the "RF" designation, which stands for "Retractable Fastback." Both these higher-end models have the fastback design slope and a hard convertible top. Push a button and the top retracts cleanly back into the frame in about 30 seconds. Convertibles in lower trims are soft-top.

Other trims are available in a more traditional soft-top convertible variation. The Club trim, just one notch above the base, comes equipped with 17-inch wheels and a nine-speaker Bose sound system. The Grand Touring RF trim not only comes with that nifty retractable hardtop convertible feature, it also offers sumptuous Terracotta Nappa leather upholstery. Imagine that: Premium luxury seating and the joy of driving a Mazda Miata.

Infotainment

The interior of the newest Mazda MX-5 Miata is the soul of simplicity. This is a pure driving machine and it doesn't try to dazzle you with a lot of gizmos and software. Instead, the new MX-5 Miata provides an infotainment system that humanizes control with knobs and hard buttons that are easy to reach. Bluetooth is standard for both phone and streaming audio. Also standard: HD radio, Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.
